Luna Rossa goes all-in on Naples: Italian challenge at the 2027 America's Cup
Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli unveils its program for the 2027 America's Cup in Naples: new boat, renewed crew and one goal — the cup.
Luna Rossa: the Italian challenge for the 38th America's Cup
With the venue confirmed in Naples, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli has raised the level of its ambition. Racing in front of the Italian public, in one of the world's most beautiful bays, is a dream the team is turning into a high-level technical and sporting program.
The new boat: a revolutionary project
Luna Rossa's design director has revealed that the AC75 for Naples 2027 will be the most ambitious project in the team's history. Compared to the previous cycle, the new yacht integrates:
- Next-generation foils: greater efficiency on downwind legs
- Revised mainsail and jib: optimized for the Gulf of Naples thermal wind
- Advanced hydraulic systems: for faster response to trim changes
The team: experience and speed
The helmsman pair Francesco Bruni and James Spithill is confirmed. Bruni, coming off the Barcelona experience, brings knowledge of Mediterranean wind. Spithill, with two America's Cups won, guarantees the tactical aggression needed.
New additions to the sail control team: technicians from Formula 1 for real-time optimization systems.
Sponsor support
Prada and Pirelli have renewed their commitment with an increased budget compared to the previous cycle. New Italian institutional partners are joining, including Leonardo and Ferrari.
The team principal's words
Max Sirena, skipper and team director, stated: "Naples gives us an enormous psychological advantage. Playing at home, in front of our fans, is a responsibility we transform into positive energy. We are here to win the Cup".
The path to the final
Luna Rossa will first need to win the Louis Vuitton Cup against the other challengers, then face defender Emirates Team New Zealand in Match Race. A long and difficult journey, but never before has the team been more ready.
